Devara Movie Review: Jr. NTR's Underwater Action Fails to Meet Expectations !
So guys, Devara was hyped as this huge underwater mass movie, with a budget of around 300 crores and none other than Jr. NTR leading it. It sounded like something big was about to happen in Indian cinema. But after watching the film, I have to say, it feels like we’ve been tricked – and not in a good way.

The advance bookings were insane, with the film crossing 50 crores even before day one. People were expecting the opening day to easily hit 100 crores, and with all that buzz, it seemed like Devara would rule Telugu cinema in 2024. But after sitting through all 3 hours of the film, it became clear something major was missing.

Now, about the story...
The film is set around the Red Sea, where instead of water, blood flows. Devara is the mysterious figure who protects this sea, but no one has seen him in the last 10-12 years. There’s also a devil in the story, someone as powerful as Devara, but with a mind sharper than Ravana’s. But honestly, the plot just felt like something we’ve seen before.

What’s the real issue here?
The biggest problem is that the storyline feels old and repetitive. If this film had released in 1994, it might have been considered fresh and different. But in today’s time, the father-son double role and predictable characters just don’t excite the audience anymore. Even Jr. NTR’s character doesn’t live up to his title of “Man of the Masses,” and the whole story becomes too predictable too quickly.

Are there any positives?
Yes, the underwater scenes are impressive, especially the fight sequences. The action scenes on the ship also felt unique and enjoyable. Jr. NTR gave his all, no doubt, but beyond the underwater sequences and action, there isn’t much to hold on to.

Now, the negatives...
The story feels outdated and repetitive. There’s nothing new or exciting about it. Saif Ali Khan’s character, while anticipated to be a game-changer, didn’t make the impact people were expecting. And then, the movie’s length – 3 hours! It feels unnecessarily stretched, with extra characters just thrown in to make room for a part two.

Final verdict?
Devara is an average film. Not great, not terrible. It’s a one-time watch in theaters, but not everyone will have the patience to sit through the full 3 hours. In my view, it gets 2 stars out of 5: one for the underwater scenes and another for Anirudh’s background music.

In the end, while the name of the movie is Devara, it definitely comes with a D for disappointment.
