Why India’s Participation in the Upcoming SCO Meeting Matters for Pakistan’s Survival
Friends, the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) meeting is set to take place soon in Pakistan, and there's a lot of buzz around it. Pakistani media and politicians are especially excited about the fact that Dr. Jaishankar from India will be attending. Now the question is, why is India, which has always been cautious in its relations with Pakistan, participating in this meeting?
Pakistan is currently facing a severe economic crisis. The country is almost on the verge of default, and even the IMF and other global financial institutions are hesitant to extend further loans. This is why Pakistan is now reaching out to India, hoping that some sort of trade agreement could help stabilize its economy. Pakistani authorities have even requested American intervention to pressure India into restarting trade talks. Pakistan knows very well that without trade with India, their situation will worsen further.
So, why is Jaishankar going to Pakistan for this meeting? In my view, one significant reason is pressure from the U.S. Recently, the U.S. provided Pakistan with $450 million in assistance, including funds for F-16 fighter jets. The U.S. is backing Pakistan to help maintain some level of stability in both military and economic terms. Therefore, the U.S. wants India to participate in these talks to ensure the success of the SCO summit.
However, it's important to note that India’s decision to attend the meeting is purely based on its own strategic interests. India could have easily opted for a virtual presence, but Jaishankar's in-person visit signifies India's intention to maintain its position in diplomatic circles.
Pakistan's real concern is that it will have to improve its trade and diplomatic relations with India, or else its economic situation will deteriorate further. But will Pakistan really do this? I think it’s going to be very difficult for Pakistan, given its history of deceit and betrayal in its policies. Whether it’s the Taliban or the U.S., Pakistan has always backstabbed others for its own benefit.
One more thing to consider here: Why is the U.S. pushing for the success of an organization like SCO, which is essentially a Chinese platform? It’s not particularly in America’s interest. Still, the U.S. is putting pressure on Pakistan to stabilize, as it wants to keep Pakistan as a tool for future conflicts, especially against Iran.
If relations between Iran and the U.S. worsen in the coming days, Pakistan is likely to be the first country the U.S. will use. Pakistan has worked against Iran before, and it won’t hesitate to do so again. If Iran faces internal conflicts, Pakistan will try to exploit the situation. So, Pakistan’s attempts to participate in this meeting and improve relations with India are essentially survival tactics.
So friends, with the upcoming SCO meeting, Pakistan is once again trying to save itself on the global stage. But will India fall into this trap? Only time will tell. What is clear is that this meeting is a crucial opportunity for Pakistan, and they will do whatever it takes to make it a success, even if it means making big promises.
